About Nancy
Nancy R. Madani is a bilingual (English/Spanish) Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Doctor of Psychology in Marriage and Family Therapy. With more than 25 years in behavioral health, she is a passionate advocate for underserved communities and is highly skilled in treating family-centered trauma within diverse populations.
Nancy began her career as a case manager and substance abuse counselor, then spent close to a decade in community mental health in Los Angeles, providing individual, group, and family therapy and crisis intervention in homes, schools, and community settings. She has since provided assessment, diagnosis, and psychotherapy for adults, adolescents, and children in behavioral health and community health settings, including care for survivors of childhood trauma and domestic violence.
Outside of her clinical work, Nancy founded the Hands On Family Center, a volunteer effort that raised donations and provided lunches and gift cards for students at a Los Angeles charter high school. She has also volunteered as an advocate on a hotline for women who experienced sexual abuse. She is a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) and the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).
How Nancy approaches treatment
Nancy uses a patient-centered, inclusive approach to collaborative treatment planning, grounded in a biopsychosocial framework and culturally competent assessment. Her work draws on evidence-based methods such as Trauma-Focused CBT, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Seeking Safety, and Motivational Interviewing.
For children and teens, Nancy often includes family therapy as part of the treatment plan, and she provides education to patients and families about mental health. She builds rapport quickly across cultures and works closely with psychiatric and medical teams to coordinate care.
