    Questions from referring clinicians

Who can refer a patient to Savant Care?

Any healthcare professional can refer, including primary care physicians, therapists, psychologists, nurse practitioners, and specialists. Whether your patient’s plan requires a referral depends on the plan: most do not, but some HMO plans do.

Which patients are a good fit for telehealth psychiatry?

Patients who can join a secure video visit from a private space, and who are physically located in California, Texas, or Florida at the time of each visit. Telehealth works well for evaluation and ongoing medication management of the conditions listed above. Patients who need emergency or inpatient care should get that care first.

Which states do you see patients in?

California, Texas, and Florida. Our clinicians are licensed in those three states, and patients need to be physically located in one of them at the time of each video visit. For Florida referrals, call us at (866) 499-2588 to check availability.

Which insurance plans do you accept? Do you accept Medi-Cal or Medicare?

We are in network with 50+ plans in California and Texas, including Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Optum, Humana, Magellan Health, Tricare, and Medicare. We do not accept Medi-Cal or Medicaid. Plans can vary by provider, so we verify coverage before the first visit. In Florida, we are in network with Aetna and Cigna. See the full list of accepted plans.

    Do you prescribe controlled substances?

Our clinicians prescribe psychiatric medications by telehealth, following state medical board rules and federal law. For ADHD, both stimulant and non-stimulant options are available. Controlled substances carry additional federal and state requirements, which the clinician reviews with the patient during the visit.

What are your fees for patients without insurance?

Patients without insurance pay our self-pay rates. A psychiatrist visit is $250 for 30 minutes or $500 (discounted to $400) for 60 minutes. A nurse practitioner visit is $150 for 30 minutes or $250 (discounted to $200) for 60 minutes. Discounts for documented financial need may be available through our finance team. See all self-pay rates.

How do I know you received my referral?

Portal referrals get a referral ID as soon as you submit, and our intake team is notified right away. The referral then appears on your dashboard with its current status: submitted, in review, patient contacted, visit scheduled, closed, or not accepted. Intake can add a short note with each update. Fax referrals aren’t tracked in the portal: call intake at (866) 499-2588, Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM Pacific (11 AM–7 PM Central, 12–8 PM Eastern), to confirm receipt or check status.

What if my patient can’t be reached, declines, or isn’t a fit?

Intake updates the referral’s status in the portal: Closed if the patient can’t be reached or declines care, or Not accepted if our services aren’t the right fit, with a short note explaining why. For fax referrals, call intake to ask about the outcome.

How will I hear back about my patient?

With your patient’s consent, through a signed release of information, we send you the evaluation summary and treatment plan after the first visit, then progress notes as care continues.

What if my patient needs urgent or crisis care?

Savant Care is an outpatient telehealth practice, not an emergency service. If your patient is in crisis, have them call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), call 911, or go to the nearest emergency room. For safety concerns that are not an emergency, note them on the referral.
